Prof. Dr. Jaap van Muijen has the Chair in Leadership Development at Nyenrode University, and was dean of SIOO, founded in 1958 by eight Dutch universities, the Foundation Interacademic Training Organizational Science (S.I.O.O.). The reason was the increasing demand for a heavy postgraduate course for the relatively young profession of management consultant. Van Muijen has a large research and consultancy experience in the field of Human Resource Management, personal development and change processes. As a professor he was involved in the assessments of students for the Amsterdam Nyenrode Law School (ANLS). According to him, leadership is a process between the person of the leader, his or her followers and their context. The manager often has pitfalls from his personality, which are reinforced by the culture in which he or she operates. For example, a goal-oriented organization can become so targeted by the ambitious personality of its leader that followers in the organization burn up, with the result that paradoxically enough the organization does not realize its goals.
