Joop Alberda was national coach of the national men's volleyball team from 1992 to 1996, winning Olympic gold in Atlanta in 1996. The final against Italy was declared the best sporting moment of the 20th century. After this achievement Joop Alberda became technical director at the NOC * NSF and responsible for all sports technical matters including innovation and Olympic programs. Four successful Olympic Games as technical director delivered a record number of medals. During the Sydney Olympic Games, Joop Alberda was Technical Director. Together with Guus Hiddink, he put Russian football back on the map for the Russian Federation in the run-up to the EC 2008. Joop Alberda has set up a platform for coaches; NLcoach, aimed at improving the top sport climate in the Netherlands and exchanging knowledge for coaches from top sport. He is also co-editor-in-chief of the magazine NL Coach. After a trip to business as a consultant at & Samhoud, Alberda returned to the sport. Successively cycling (Cervelo TestTeam) rowing, athletics and swimming were the domains in which he worked as Technical Director until 2016. At the Dutch Volleyball Federation, NeVoBo, he is technical director.
